CORES

How to buy - with a core or without?

  • If you are sending a meter (your core) to me for conversion, select the 'convert your core' option. If you do not have a suitable core, or if you want to remove your old meter and put in a converted one at the same time, select the 'without a core' option. If you do not see the 'without a core' option that means I do not have a core available for you to purchase. This is also reflected in the Availability section above the prices that says 'I need your core'.

  • All cores must meet minimum requirements for conversion. If you send an unusable core (bent, parts missing, dial rusted and/or pitted, etc) it will NOT get converted - I will send your core back to you.

  • Sending in your core for conversion:
Send only the part you want converted. I don't need the entire cluster and it costs more to ship and insure one. Besides costing more in shipping, you run more risk of damage. I will charge a minimum of 1 hour shop time to disassemble and reassemble the cluster and am not responsible for any damage.

  • Tachometer Cores

G1S, G2S '67-70 non XR7 clock delete: A usable core has a face with normal to no wear & tear. The plastic case is intact. The center is bright silver, not scratched. G2S have a pedestal with center piece.

G1X6, G2X6 '67-73 XR7 tachometer, 6000 RPM: Bent or missing pointers reduce the core refund by $5.00. The main thing is that you send me a good dial and a decent case. A usable core includes the warning light jewels and center pedestal with cap on 1969 and 1970 models.

G1X8, G2X8 '67-70 XR7 tachometer, 8000 RPM: Your core dial will be refaced, so fading and slight scratches are not a problem. Bent or missing pointers reduce the core refund by $5.00. The main thing is that you send me a good dial and a decent case. Tachometers with plastic cases and stop pins at zero are no problem. A usable core includes the warning light jewels and center pedestal with cap on 1969 and 1970 models.

Rally-Pac tachometer: I need the complete tachometer assembly as it comes out of the case (case, lens, bezel, etc) - not the entire Rally pac. The tachometer you send is the one you get back. If you send a tachometer without the lens, bezel and three screws it will not be converted. I will email you to send the missing parts or return the tachometer to you.

M7123S '71-73 Mustang Warning Light assy: A usable core has a face with normal wear & tear. The plastic case is intact, none of the mounting tabs or light sockets on the back are broken. A usable core includes the red warning light jewels and the pedestal with center piece. Missing blue 'globes' are not a problem.

M7123SC '71-73 Mustang Dash mounted clock with warning lights: A usable core has a face with normal wear & tear. It includes the plastic base, red warning light jewels, set stem and clock hands are not required. The plastic case is intact, none of the mounting tabs or light sockets on the back are broken. Missing blue 'globes' are not a problem and the clock does not have to work.

M7123T '71-73 Mustang Tachometer: A usable core has a face with normal to no wear & tear. The plastic case and pointer are intact and have the pedestal with center piece. Broken or missing pointers reduce the core refund by $5.00. A dial that is severely pitted and/or rusted is NOT a refundable core.

Other models: The core you send is the tachometer you get back, so make sure that it has a nice face. Bent or missing pointers are usually not a problem, but may cost slightly more. The main thing is that you send me a good dial and a decent case. Tachometers with plastic cases and stop pins at zero are no problem. A usable core includes the center pedestal and cap on models after 1968.

    Old movements:
If you would like the old movement returned to you with your converted tachometer, add the ROM option (bottom of tachometers listing page) to your order.

    Amp meter cores

Cougar AMP meters: A usable core has a face with normal wear & tear. The metal case must be intact and have both posts with the insulator intact. The pointer is not bent or missing.

Other AMP meters: The core you send is the meter you get back.
Other than the M6566VO, M6768CV, M7123V, F100VO and G4V models these meters are NOT refaced, so make sure that the face is in good shape.
The metal case must be intact and have both posts with insulator intact. Ammeters with plastic stud girdles must NOT be cracked or broken. If there is cracking or splitting around the studs you need to also order a replacement Stud and Girdle assembly from the top of the voltmeters page.
The pointer cannot be bent or missing.

    Clocks

Send only complete clocks: A repairable clock has a functional set mechanisism & stem. The clock must be intact - In it's case with all three hands and a functional set stem. I will not warranty repairs on partial clocks. The clock you send is the clock you will get back. I do not reface the dial, I will paint the hands to OEM colors.

    Packing your core:

  • When packing your core, it is very important that you protect the face and needle.

  •
  • A piece of stiff cardboard taped over the face works well. On smaller gauges a spray paint cover or small Tupperware type bowl is good.

  •
  • Either way make sure to pad the gauge well and use a box - NOT AN ENVELOPE!

  •
  • The two studs on the back of ammeters are fragile and will break off if pushed on.

  •
  • PLEASE do not wrap your gauge with packing tape. If you use tape, use blue painters tape.
